Property description

Built in the early 1920s this charming end terrace house right in the heart of Sandwich makes an ideal permanent family home or even a weekend retreat as it is only half a mile from Sandwich station if you need to commute.

The property is literally a stone’s throw from pubs, restaurants, shops, infant schools and the river and has two garages as well as a gated driveway for off road parking for two or three cars – a real bonus and a rarity in the centre of this picturesque medieval town. The driveway also leads to the walled garden, which is a real suntrap in the summer months and this can also be accessed via the kitchen or the patio doors in the arched lounge extension.

To appreciate the accommodation available you need to cross the threshold through the unusual stained glass panelled front door and see for yourself. As well as some stained glass windows there are a number of other period features such as picture rails throughout many of the rooms. There is a good sized dining room and a separate lounge that is nearly 19ft long as well as a modern, well proportioned kitchen complete with double oven, gas hob, integrated dishwasher and fridge/freezer.

On the first floor you will find the family bathroom and three double bedrooms including the master with fitted wardrobes. A real surprise can be found up the paddle stairs and into the attic space where the fourth bedroom/playroom or teenage hideaway that has been created along with an en suite shower room – so could even be an excellent spot for guests. Alternatively, if you wanted to work from home, this would make a great place to work undisturbed by other people in the house.

What the Owner says:

We bought this property in 1992 when our children were very young but they have now grown up and moved away so we are looking to downsize and move nearer to our grandchild. It has been a wonderful family home and we have thoroughly enjoyed bringing the kids up here. They started going to the excellent local infants’ school and then moved on to the very good local primary and secondary schools and have done extremely well. It is very convenient that we can literally walk out of the door and go to have a drink or a meal and not have to worry about taking the car out and virtually all the local shops are also within walking distance.
During the time we have lived here we have completely renovated the property as it was in a somewhat parlous state when we originally moved in - even the garden looked like a wilderness! More recently we reconfigured the kitchen to increase its size and created a very modern space with up to date appliances and new units which anyone who enjoys cooking will be able to appreciate. One of our great delights was to create the attic bedroom where we spent much of our time while the rest of the house was being refurbished and we loved being able to lie in bed and watch the stars or look out of the window across the amazing rooftops of Sandwich.
It is only minutes to the dual carriage way for access to Dover, Deal and Ramsgate while the mainline station can whisk you to St Pancras in one hour 27 minutes.
