Property description
This is one wonderful home which holds a great deal of character and warmth as well as its own slice of history.
Being situated in a quiet yet convenient corner of the Island, you are only a short drive away from the Island’s capital as well as mainland ferry links.
It is believed this Station masters home was built for Queen Victoria as it was the nearest rail point to Osborne House. Prime Ministers and dignitaries would come to Ryde, then travel by train to Whippingham Station where they would be met by horse and carriage. Queen Victoria had her own waiting room which is currently the sitting room now.
The property has a great deal of versatility and provides five bedrooms, four reception rooms, conservatory, one amazing kitchen/dining room, utility room, three shower rooms, family bathroom and a further downstairs cloakroom.
As you enter the property, there is a substantial lawn with two Victoria Plum and a Quince tree, and to the left of the driveway is a common meadow with wild orchids. The once platform is now a lawn that leads down to the Italian garden, with raised beds, rockery and borders adjacent to this is the orchard, with a small woodland beyond.
The location in which this home sits is down the bottom of a quiet lane. This contributes massively in providing it with a great deal of privacy and tranquillity, overlooking countryside fields as well as providing for some splendid walks.
This wonderful home could accommodate a number of needs, from a home to serve the requirements of two or even three generations of the same family, a holiday home potential or a combination of the two. One thing is for certain here - the choices are plenty within this amazing property and it certainly delivers substantial levels of charm and appeal.
What the Owner says:
We have spent the last ten years living in this historic converted former Victorian Station masters home which was built for Queen Victoria to travel to Osborne House.
The home is so versatile and inviting, making for great family parties and summer barbecues in the garden and patio area or even winter parties in the kitchen/dining room which is the hub of the house around the Aga.
We have had three generations of our family living here with the children and grandchildren enjoying playing in the gardens and wooded areas.
This house has been a lovely family home which we will be sad to leave.
