About the Area
Croscombe lies between wells and Shepton and is known to date back to at least 706 and it developed in the 16th and 17th centuries with the boom in the wool trade. During this period many houses, cottages and inns were built and the church was reconstructed. Today Croscombe is a vibrant village with a primary school, village stores, a pub and a very active local community. Wells is the smallest city in England (population about 11,000) lying in beautiful countryside between the Somerset Levels and the Mendip Hills - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
