Property description
Substantial Grade II listed farmhouse positioned within large mature gardens with well-proportioned rooms throughout, farmhouse kitchen, 4 bedrooms (2 en-suite), covered heated swimming pool and fantastic views to Dartmoor.
Bidbeare Barton is an elegant traditional Devon farmhouse, located in the heart of the country amongst rolling hills adjacent to the Taw river valley with superb views over the surrounding countryside to the east and south, with Dartmoor in the distance. The house is Grade II listed having a long history dating back to the 17th century with an impressive plaster mantel in the study, apparently bearing the arms of Gidleigh and Northleigh.
The layout is traditional with generous, spacious and beautifully proportioned high ceilinged rooms.
Outside, the property is approached from a quiet rural lane into a gravelled drive providing ample parking and turning areas. On the east side is a paved terrace giving access onto an extensive lawned garden area on two levels, from here there are attractive views across the surrounding rolling Devon farmland. A door leads from the terrace through a wall to a further paved area, within which is the enclosed heated swimming pool with sliding glazed cover. The pool has paved surrounds and incorporates a hot tub.
On the front south side of the house is an enclosed lawned garden with plant borders, ornamental plants and trees, and to the west side is a further lawned garden area connecting around to the swimming pool area.
Linked to the house is a stone barn building with a single full height room which has a tiled floor, providing useful storage and also houses the central heating boiler, swimming pool filtration and water purification equipment. A wall connects this to a further stone built storage outbuilding with quarry tiled floor with the potential use as an office etc.
