Property description

A home that is one beautiful piece of period craftsmanship and architecture that still delivers a wonderful aura and presence to this day.

Inside many of its vast rooms and spaces, it comes very clear this uniquely individual property was a home of prominence and prestige.

Found in a region of the Island that is brilliantly convenient for schooling of all levels including Ryde Private, the golf course, the high speed commute to the mainland as well as car ferry travel. This is a property of grace and style positioned in a wonderfully convenient location with a highly popular seaside town and all its conveniences and its superb sandy beaches only a short distance away.

It is tucked behind mainly a stone wall and a high tree line providing an excellent level of privacy from the outside world in generous and attractive grounds. The property delivers very flexible accommodation as there are two staircases leading upto the first floor, so the rear bedroom areas and rooms, with some tweaking, could become their own self-contained areas if need be.

All-in-all, currently there are six bedrooms, two bathrooms, two shower rooms and a first floor snug, one amazing first floor landing with is glass dome ceiling, five reception rooms, office space, conservatory, kitchen/breakfast room and grand entrance hallway. Within the grounds, there are a number of brick and stone built outbuildings that can work as store areas and workshops, but possibly with the correct consents, be converted for other purposes. There are also cellar rooms accessible from the outside and an extensive driveway.

This is a home of substance and size, with an abundance of character, as well as having attractive and private grounds. Being situated on the edge of a popular and highly convenient seaside town, it delivers brilliantly for today’s family, this home cannot fail to impress.

What the Owner says:

Built around 1830, this property was the home of Sir William Loring who was a Knight Admiral (KCG) in Queen Victoria’s Navy. He commanded HMS Furious, fought at Sebastopol and served in the Far East before becoming Commodore to the Australian Naval station. The home is adorned by Wisteria and Myrtle, both gifted from Queen Victoria, and a giant Wellingtonia mirrors the two Osborne House trees. Externally, an engraved, circular floor laid, commemorative stone marks The Sebastopol Battle.

The home now stands within a generous plot, though it was originally extended to many acres as a stone quarry in the past. It retains many unique features including the impressive Victorian dome, original floorboards, fireplaces and cornices and reflects the standing of the house with the original room sizes and heights.

The property has seen other improvements and an extension since 1830 which adds to the overall capacity and living space whilst still retaining charm, history and modern enjoyment.
