Property description

To experience the nostalgic charm of this property you need to turn into the driveway so you can really appreciate the delights of this beautiful family home. It is set in 0.76 of an acre of grounds surrounded by rolling Kent countryside and was originally built around 1805. It engenders the peace and tranquillity of a bygone era that continues as you walk into the gorgeous country style living room with its beams, fireplace and brick walls. This atmosphere flows through to the equally attractive beamed dining room where family and friends can enjoy a cosy dinner. At the same time the house has all the mod cons required for 21st century day living with a large and well equipped kitchen/breakfast room that includes a central island, a built in double oven and microwave as well as other integrated appliances, under granite worktops.

With a family bathroom and four period style double bedrooms, including the master with en suite facilities and a walk in wardrobe, there is plenty of space for family and guests on the upper floors. They can all revel in the uninterrupted countryside views or enjoy watching the antics of the donkeys and sheep in the nearby fields.

Whether you are looking for a permanent country home or a rural retreat where you can wind down from the rigours of the week, this cottage provides plenty of opportunities for a variety of activities.

The large lawn area is virtually a blank canvas and, depending on your interests, it could encompass a swimming pool, tennis court or a football pitch for enthusiastic young soccer players. Alternatively it could be used as a paddock for a small pony, although there are livery stables very nearby if you wanted your horses looked after.

What the Owner says:

“We have lived in this small enclave of five period properties that were part of the Shelvingford Farm Estate for almost 15 years and have greatly enjoyed everything about our peaceful rural home. Our family and friends take great pleasure in visiting us so they can enjoy great country walks, a spot of fishing, sitting on the patio with a glass or wine or popping out to one of the super restaurants in the area. At the same time we are close to the sea for visits to the beach and a number of seaside towns, including Herne Bay, Whitstable for its famous oysters and only half an hour away Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Margate with the Turner Gallery. In twenty minutes you can be in Canterbury with its historic buildings, high street stores and individual shops, restaurants, theatres, schools and universities. We even have a new Sainsbury’s supermarket due to be built shortly about 2 miles away. It is so pleasant to wake up to the sound of birdsong to take the dog for bracing walks around the adjoining fields and enjoy the early evening sunsets. There are also great places for cycling and the Gate Inn-whose landlord used to work as chef in Downing Street-welcomes dogs and is within walking distance and where, on a summer evening you can relax and watch the ducks on the stream. We have a friendly and supportive local community that includes a small holder who delivers our eggs and another who provides logs for our wood burner.
