Property description

If you want to live the rural idyll this property on the outskirts of Eastry could make that dream come true. Set in the midst of over 5 acres of stunning grounds and paddocks and surrounded by high hedges and fields this country hideaway offers the ultimate in peace and tranquillity. Whether you are into the ‘good life’ and want to have chickens or pigs or you are equestrian enthusiasts and need somewhere for your horses, this place has it all. There is a large chicken run and a set of two stables and a foaling box as well as a large field shelter in the paddocks for the animals in inclement weather – be they horses, sheep or even alpacas, if you were looking for an alternative.

The 16th century cottage is adorable with a gorgeous country style kitchen/dining room complete with inglenook fireplace and beamed ceiling but still includes a double oven cooker, fridge and freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is also a ground floor shower room – ideal if you have come in from mucking out the horses or a bracing walk with the dog. The cosy sitting room also has an inglenook fire place and is just the place to curl up with a good book or to watch TV. This leads through to the large conservatory where you can spend your time looking out over the beautiful garden.

Upstairs you will find two charming double bedrooms and a family bathroom while outside there is a summerhouse that has previously been used as an office and includes electricity, heating and lighting. There are a number of terraced areas so you can sit outside and follow the sun all day and two driveways as well as two garages with a central carport/storage area. You will even find a pond and a well that you can actually drink from!

What the Owner says:

It has been a joy to live here over the past nine years but we are now moving abroad to start a new chapter in our lives. We have loved the peace and quiet as well as being able to enjoy the ‘good life’ with our chickens and geese and looking after our daughter’s horses on a regular basis and there is nothing we like more than sitting in the garden watching the wildlife. The early autumn is exciting when the fruit in the orchard is ready for picking. There is always a rush to be the first to taste the black cherries and we also love the figs, apples, pears, plums, and nectarines as well as gooseberries and rhubarb.

You will find some wonderful walks and TROT (The Toll Rides Off Road Trust) rides where members can ride for miles around the neighbouring fields and woodland. At the same time we are not far from the village of Eastry with its grocery shops, pharmacy, post office, riding shop, takeaways and pub that serves very good food. It is a vibrant village with plenty of activities taking place in the community hall including zumba, morris dancing and fitness classes. There is also a horticultural society, a snooker club and a cricket club.

The previous owners drew up plans for an extension to the cottage and, although the planning permission has now lapsed, it would probably be possible to resurrect it – particularly as the property is not listed.
