Property description

Full of character and charm, this property is a wonderful detached family home that has the advantage of being close to the sea at St Margaret’s Bay as well as being adjacent to the surrounding countryside. It has plenty of flexible accommodation, whether you have a large family or want to provide a separate apartment for an elderly relative or older children as it even has two staircases.

The house is steeped in history and is believed to date back to the early 1800s when it was two cottages. The two chalk cellars were probably used by smugglers in days of yore but would be ideal as wine cellars or for the more active they could become a gym or a playroom. The house was also used by Rolls Royce engineers during World War II when they were designing the famous Merlin engines that were used in the Hurricane and Spitfire aeroplanes.

With its beamed ceilings, bay windows and wraparound garden and orchard this lovely old home is just waiting for new owners to put their own stamp on it.

What the Owner says:

“We have lived here for the past 28 years and fell in love with the house the moment we saw it. However we go away a great deal and feel that it is now too big for us and the time has come to let another family experience the joys of living at this property which translate to’ house by the sea’.
Our grandchildren will certainly miss the old house as they thoroughly enjoy the run of the house and playing in the garden. They will still enjoy visiting us, with their daily trips down to the beach and joining in the vast range of activities going on in St Margarets at Cliff.
The village hall constantly have a wide variety of activities going on from gardening club to cub scouts and guides and brownies. The women’s institute is very active and it’s great to belong to a community where there is always something of interest for young and old alike.
While we have been here we have modernised the bathrooms and added the conservatory where we spend much of our time as it overlooks the colourful garden.”
