Property description
A delightfully situated detached Grade II listed thatched cottage in excellent condition, outbuildings, with scope to further develop a somewhat derelict stone/cob stable, parking, approx. 4 acres of gardens and meadow plus river frontage (meadow only).
Redlands is a beautiful detached 17th century Devon cottage located in a tranquil rural setting in the small hamlet of Penstone, being easily accessible for Crediton with the university and cathedral city of Exeter located 11 miles away providing a range of facilities.
The detached stone and cob built thatched cottage , which is Grade II listed, offers three bedroomed accommodation over two floors and is presented in excellent order throughout with a generous living room, kitchen/breakfast room, two bathrooms and useful utility room.
More modern conveniences such as dual floor thermostats, mains water and drainage (plus water meter) are a great addition to a characterful cottage. (Thatchboard was added when the new roof was thatched in water reed four years ago).
There are lovely gardens and grounds surrounding the house which in all extends to approximately 0.75 acres including various outbuildings/stores and a wash house (there are very few left in Devon). There is scope to further develop a somewhat derelict stable stone/cob stable building, together with the footprint of a two-storey building which was originally thatched and attached to the cottage (subject to planning consent). Across the quiet country lane is off-road parking and a “wild garden” which boasts a plethora of flora and fauna. This opens into an established orchard and then there is a stock fenced meadow, largely level and with river frontage. In all, the land amounts to approximately 4 acres (including the garden) and is a beautiful sanctuary for both the wildlife and an owner alike.
