History and about the area
Cossington is a traditional village with a primary school, pub and village hall. It lies between the towns of Bridgwater and Street (bus services to each) and the M5 motorway, (junction 23), is less than 4 miles with good access north to Bristol & south to Taunton & the remainder of the West Country. Taunton has main line rail connections to London. There are excellent state and independent schools in the area including Millfield at Glastonbury and Street. The Manor predates the earliest, 11th-century chancel of Cossington's parish church, St Mary's the Virgin, where two of the early residents, Sir John Brent and his wife, are commemorated in brass. The property is listed in the Domesday Book under 'The Land of St Mary of Glastonbury as 'the abbot Cossington'. It is believed that the oldest room in the Manor, now the Library, served first as an'office' for the collection of tithes from their vast landholdings.
