Property description

THE PROPERTY 1-2 Danes Court is a semi-detached four bedroom cottage, lying on the edge of the popular village of Great Coxwell offering characterful accommodation arranged over three floors. The property is entered through a small porch which leads to the open plan living accommodation. There is a kitchen which has been fitted with a range of floor and wall mounted units, having space for a washing machine, dishwasher and freestanding oven. Leading from this is a small utility/cloakroom which has plumbing for a washing machine and cloakroom facilities. The living area has been opened up to form a dining room and sitting room with a central fireplace featuring open fires to both sides. Two windows and a door lead from this room to the garden and there are two separate staircases accessing the first floor.

To the first floor are two good-sized bedrooms with windows overlooking the front elevation and a family bathroom with WC, wash basin and bath. A further two staircases lead individually to two bedrooms on the second floor. Both of these bedrooms are of generous sizes, although they have some restricted head room in places.

Outside, the property comes into its own with substantial grounds amounting to approximately 0.62 acres including a patio immediately to the front of the house, leading to a cottage-style garden with vegetable beds and flower borders. Opening from this is a paddock (0.57 acres, included within the 0.62 acre total plot) with outbuildings and driveway with access through a private lane.

AMENITIES Great Coxwell is a small cul de sac village, situated about two miles south west of Faringdon, just off the A420 Oxford to Swindon road.

On the edge of the village is the Great Coxwell Barn which was completed in the middle of the 13th century. It is the finest surviving medieval barn in the country and is now owned by the National Trust. This is an impressive 152 feet long Cotswold stone barn with Cotswold stone tiles supported by oak posts which sit on top of 22 feet high stone posts. The Great Barn and parts of the nearby Court House are all that remain of the 13th century Grange, once belonging to Beaulieu Abbey in Hampshire. The small 12th century church of St Giles stands on the site of an earlier Saxon church.

The nearby historic market town of Faringdon has a thriving community and amenities such as the Leisure Centre, Library, Faringdon Community College, Junior and Infant schools as well as Ferndale Preparatory School and The Old Station Nursery, two doctors' surgeries and a Family Centre.

The Tower on Folly Hill was built by Lord Berners in 1935 and affords panoramic views across four counties. For over 20 years, the town has been twinned with Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe in France and in 2004, Faringdon became the first Fairtrade town in the South East of England. The town is served by the Stagecoach 66 bus which runs a half-hourly service through much of the day from Swindon to Oxford and back (there is a bus stop where the Coxwell Road joins the A420).
