Property description

This property was originally part of the Eythorne House estate and is surrounded by other associated properties with descriptive names such as The Stable and the Gardener’s Cottage. This delightful rural property was originally built in 1761 and retains much of the ambience of a bygone era but has been sensitively updated to reflect modern trends.

One of the special features is the charming country style kitchen with its beams, breakfast bar, oven, hob, fridge/freezer and dishwasher leading to the attractive dining room via an impressive brick archway. To add to this the kitchen also opens up to the garden room with views across the rear. This area has large sliding glazed doors to the good sized patio, which is a great place for barbecues and alfresco entertaining as it is a can easily accommodate a table for eight to ten people and is in a very sheltered spot.

There is a very useful study area underneath the stairs in the hallway and this leads to the elegant sitting room with its marble style fireplace and built in book shelves on either side of the fireplace. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms. Two of them share a Jack and Jill style modern bathroom with a half curved bath as well as plenty of attractive wardrobes and built in cupboards, while the master includes built in wardrobes and an en suite with both a bath and a separate shower.

The gardens are a sheer delight. The rear garden is the epitome of an English country garden and includes a magnificent ornamental pond as a focal point. This is surrounded by hedges, a lawn, shrub borders, flower beds and a lovely pergola going from the garage almost to the back door. The garden has been divided into various areas so you can wander around from place to place and it includes a circular patio with additional seating so you can enjoy the sunshine at any time of the day. It also incorporates two useful storage sheds. There is off road parking and a double garage with carpeted stairs to a usable roof space. This has light, power and computer access and can operate as an office for anyone working from home or could be a great spot as a children’s playroom or even somewhere to house a model railway.

What the Owner says:

“We moved here about 14 years ago and have always enjoyed our time here. The wonderful character of the property and the garden immediately attracted us to the house. It is also a great place for entertaining friends and family who always seem to congregate in our kitchen and dining area as it has such a welcoming feel. The garden has been a real labour of love and we spend a great deal of our time tending our plants and watching the goldfish. Over the past few years we have redecorated the house throughout and put a new fireplace in the sitting room as well as new modern bathrooms and fitted wardrobes. We are very lucky to have such delightful neighbours in all the nearby houses that used to be part of the Eythorne House estate and shall be extremely sad to leave our lovely home, but health issues have unfortunately forced a decision.
Eythorne is a true Kentish village and with its churches, pub, post office and general store it has everything we need on a day-to-day basis. The village is a very friendly community and there are plenty of activities taking place in the village hall including a free pre-school playgroup. There is even the East Kent Heritage Railway that operates vintage trains on the old colliery railway between Sheperdswell and Eythorne if you want something different to entertain the children.
