Property description

Durford Edge along with The Hollow provides a rare opportunity to buy a little piece of architectural history. Offering as it does huge potential and scope for enhancement and improvement the house retains many of the original ideas and features incorporated into the design by Henry Inigo Triggs.

Triggs was an architect and garden designer in the early years of the twentieth century who largely worked in East Hampshire and West Sussex. He was part of the firm Unsworth, Son and Triggs. He drew much of his inspiration from the architecture of Edwin Lutyens.

Built in 1923 and being of an Arts and Crafts Movement style the house and extensive gardens were designed by Triggs and Gertude Jekyll - one of the most important British Landscape Designers of the twentieth century.

The house itself is predominantly one room deep and faces south to the rear allowing as much natural light into each room as is possible. Built of local stone in an Elizabethan style the well-proportioned accommodation includes fine oak doors, oak and pine beamed ceilings, leaded light double glazing and attractive fireplaces.

In addition to the main house The Hollow is a partially finished detached building set some 50 meters distant. Originally started as staff accommodation this building offers much scope and provides a wide variety of possibilities.

Situated on a Private Estate, Durford Edge lies in approximately 6 acres of mature, varied and mainly secluded grounds. The popular market town of Petersfield is just two miles to the south and offers easy access to London Waterloo with its excellent train links. The A3 is less than two miles distant and with the benefit of the Hindhead Tunnel allows easy vehicular access north.
