Property description
This lovely home in St Michael and All Angels is probably one of the most unusual properties you will ever encounter. The impressive building was originally constructed in 1906 as the Garrison Church for The Royal Marines, both sensitively and beautifully converted into private dwellings about 11 years ago.
You will be awed the moment you walk through the porch and straight into the stunning open plan living area. Ahead of you are the original brick arches that now house the kitchen area with its range cooker and integrated appliances and the bespoke arched door that provides access to the garden via the vast dining section. Here you can spend your days with friends and family chatting over a cup of coffee or cooking a meal. Above the kitchen are leaded light church windows set into the original brick walls and arches, as well as a galleried sitting room on the mezzanine floor. South facing, these allow sunlight to flood the whole area throughout the year, whilst the thick walls, excellent insulation and under floor heating make the whole house warm in the colder months.
There are plenty of storage cupboards throughout, including a huge airing cupboard off the mezzanine sitting room. The study is tucked away on the ground floor, so if you do want to work at home you will not be disturbed. Upstairs there will never be a queue for the bathroom as the three of the four double bedrooms have en suite facilities, in additional to the family bathroom. Car enthusiasts will be delighted the property includes three designated parking spaces and a storage shed for bicycles.
What the Owner says:
We have loved living in this stunning property, with its south facing garden set amidst tranquil, leafy surroundings. We have refurbished the interior sensitively, highlighting the original features of the Church whilst updating the guest rooms with new en suite wet rooms, with digital showers and Gerberit sanitary ware. Visitors are amazed by the privacy and spaciousness they offer, whilst our own master bedroom suite has the Church's one original stained glass window from 1906. The ground floor open plan areas have hosted wonderful evenings and large parties with friends and family.
We love living in this part of Deal, known locally as Lower Walmer. The beach is at the bottom of the road, a short stroll along the promenade into Deal and the High Street, wonderful restaurants, watering holes and array of independent shops.
We have been made so welcome locally and made many friends, including the neighbours who are a delight, so we will definitely be remaining in the area, just somewhere more suitable for us.
For sporting enthusiasts, there is an excellent sailing club at the end of the road and top class golf courses on the outskirts of Deal. The nearby Rugby Club offers an excellent opportunity for making friends. You don't need to play however; just turn up and be sociable!
Deal Station is within walking distance, with the improved HST service into Stratford International and St. Pancras, giving an easy commute into Canary Wharf, The City and rest of London
