Property description
Do you dream of living in a chocolate box cottage, but need to be close to Town? This Grade II Listed cottage with detailed planning permission to extend can make that dream come true.
The cottage is believed to date back to 1617 and part of it was once used as a shop. Sitting in your lounge, with its exposed beams, you can easily forget that you’re so close to London and completely relax into the slower pace of country living. Yet Central London is nearby with the Chigwell Central Line Station just the other side of the village. If you fancy eating out, The Bluebell Restaurant and Sheesh are moments away, as is Chigwell School, so the children can spend extra time in bed and still be on time.
Detailed planning permission has been granted for a two storey extension to the rear of the cottage. This will enable you to create a spacious kitchen/breakfast room and cloakroom, while re-configuring the existing kitchen to create a boot room and laundry room. Upstairs you will have a master bedroom suite with en-suite in the extended portion alongside two additional bedrooms and family bathroom in the original building.
It is an extremely rare opportunity to be able to acquire a historic building this close to Central London. To acquire one with detailed planning permission to extend must be unique.
Please refer to the footnote regarding the services and appliances. What the Owner says:
My grandfather had always told me that his cottage had literary links, but it wasn’t until I was preparing for the sale of the cottage that I discovered their extent. On the back of a painting of the cottage was an inscription explaining that Charles Dickens referred to the cottage as “Woodcarver’s Lodge” in his book, Barnaby Rudge.
The planning permission that we have gained will allow a future owner to create a comfortable family home.
It has been a privilege to be part of the history of such an important building and I hope the future owners will gain as much joy as my family has from it.
