This picturesque area, much of which is under National Trust protection, is sheltered by boldly swelling hills which terminate in lofty red sandstone sea cliffs. The ancient village church of St. Peter is a fine Norman structure originally dating back to the 12th century and is very much a focal point of the village. Salcombe beach is nearby, being only accessible on foot, whilst there is also immediate access to the South West coastal path.
