Property description
Cleeve House is a handsome Victorian-period home packed full of character, situated in the village of Goring-on-Thames in South Oxfordshire, offering spacious and flexible accommodation. There are six Bedrooms and three Bathrooms as well as a Ground Floor WC, three Reception Rooms and a country style Kitchen/Breakfast-Room with separate Utility Room, and a pretty and well stocked garden with heated pool.
Character features abound throughout the property, including fireplaces in all three Reception Rooms, solid wood floors, high ceilings and ornate arched windows. The country style kitchen features units set with solid-wood work tops and a Range-style cooker, and has a tiled floor in keeping with the period of the property, benefitting from underfloor heating. The wooden staircase from the ground floor to the first is rather grand and befitting, as might well be expected, and then the stair from the first to the second floors offers an almost playful contrast being a cast iron spiral stair, a lovely quirk within this characterful home.
Outside the property, double gates (as well as a pedestrian gate) open into the driveway where there is parking for several vehicles, as well as a good sized garage that also has an internal door into the property through the utility room. The Gardens are not large, but are mature and well stocked, providing a range of planted beds and borders, and a patio area situated to catch the best of the afternoon and evening sunshine. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool. As well as the main garden, there is also a small and sunny patio located off the Breakfast-Room, through French Doors.
Cleeve House is situated in Goring-on-Thames, close to the Thames itself and therefore providing easy access to any number of picturesque walks; indeed, there are river views from a number of the bedrooms. The village itself, set against a backdrop of the local Chiltern Hills and Berkshire Downs, is charming, and indeed was winner of the 'Oxfordshire Best Village' award in 2009, as well as awards in the Sustainability and Communications categories in the 'Calor Village of the Year' competition (South of England Regional Heats) in 2009/2010. Goring certainly is very well served for a village of its size, with a number of local shops, including convenience store, grocers and butchers, three pub/restaurants of its own (as at time of writing, 2015), as well as more in the neighbouring Berkshire village of Streatley, just the other side of the River Thames, and a number of local sports clubs including Football, Cricket and Lawn-Tennis; there is also the Goring and Streatley Golf Club, which is situated in Streatley. There are good local primary schools in both Goring and Streatley, as well as numerous independent schools in the local area within easy reach. On top of all this, there is a mainline railway station located in the village with frequent, regular trains to London, Oxford and Reading.
