Property description

Step inside this fascinating 18th Century Grade II listed Georgian home and let your imagination be overwhelmed with the evidence of how generations of previous owners lived, and the history which lingers on in the wake of the centuries old period features. This house originally owned by famous oyster dredgerman Captain Jasper Rowden has an interior with many intriguing reminders of bygone eras with lovely cosy rooms each with unique character, some with beamed ceilings and most with multi-paned sash windows, wide timber floorboards and working Georgian fireplaces. The accommodation arranged over 3 floors features a pleasing lounge, separate dining room and additional sitting room, and there are five bedrooms spread over the first and second floors. Harbour Street is right at the heart of the conservation area, a stone's throw away from the beach and picturesque harbour with iconic timber-clad buildings and fish markets which are famous for locally caught oysters, cockles and whelks.

There are a selection of excellent schools in both the state and independent sectors for children of all ages in and around Whitstable and Canterbury and a main line station with direct rail travel to London Victoria and Cannon Street will make this perfect for commuting and a great family home. It may make a great investment opportunity as it could be run as a bed and breakfast subject to any consents needed or as a holiday home to let out.

What the Owner says:

It has been a real pleasure living at this property and being located in the heart of the vibrant and charming town centre amongst the quaint independently owned shops, galleries, boutiques and excellent restaurants.

Having the historic working harbour and beaches just yards away has provided for many fun days out with the children. Having Westmeads School on our doorstep has also been a massive bonus!

We were very surprised at the size of the rear garden at this property which creates a tranquil secluded oasis and is a real treasure and somewhere where you can enjoy delightful al fresco meals with family and friends.
