Property description

Honeysuckle House is a charming detached stone period house tucked away in its own 3 acre plot in a friendly Wiltshire hamlet equidistant between Bath and Chippenham. The house was originally two Victorian estate cottages and was converted into one house some years ago. Although not listed it boasts some fine stone work detailing on the facades and beautiful arched windows on both floors making the interior very light and airy. The current owners Guy and Jennie have upgraded and enhanced the house and gardens over the last seven years to create a lovely family home with great character and ambiance. There is planning permission for extensions to create an even larger, grander house if a buyer so desired.“Having previously lived in a big house in France surrounded by its own land,” says Guy, “on returning to the UK it took us quite some time to find a family home that gave us the same feeling of character, charm and privacy that we had enjoyed before. But we finally found it here and friends have often remarked that the house has a kind of romantic French atmosphere!”“Although we didn’t know the area well it has turned out to be ideal in so many ways and we have made great friends here. We don’t want to leave at all but with more time and travel opportunities we are now ready to down-size and luckily our next move is just a stone’s throw away,” continues Guy. “We love to drive into Bath for a spot of culture or to eat out, but equally the proximity to Chippenham has also been a real benefit. Our daughter was able to attend a really great state school there, the M4 is close by and now you’ve got the prospect of London by train in under an hour, so you get the best of both worlds. We’ve also really enjoyed having Lucknam Park on our doorstep with its restaurants, spa, tennis, equestrian and gym facilities.”“It is a haven here,” says Guy, “with a real sense of peace and light. From downstairs we look out over the garden and enjoy the many varieties of birds that visit. We have super views over the Box valley or across our own land so we often stop to watch our alpacas grazing in the paddock.” “Our open plan kitchen/breakfast room is often where we spend time in the day, with the Aga creating a warm focal point and the lovely big windows bringing light in from the garden. There’s enough space to extend our dining table to sit fourteen but we also have room for a sofa to sit and have a cup of coffee or read. Our living room and music area is where we end up in the evening to relax and in the winter the open fire is always a pleasure.”“We’ve worked hard outside to create a pretty country garden around the house itself,” says Guy, “with plants to attract butterflies and bees. Sitting under the apple tree for a cup of tea in the summer has always been a delight. Beyond the front garden we tamed the small paddock to be suitable for parties or messing around with dogs and the big paddock, with about 2 acres, is great for our alpacas or would be perfect for ponies or smallholdings.” “We’ll be very sad to leave this lovely home,” says Guy, “but as we are moving nearby we will get to keep the views, the stunning countryside and the convenient location. And we’ll be happy to hand this house on to a family who will enjoy it as much as we have.”
