Property description
Nestling in a private enclave of seven modern, high-quality residences built in 2002 along the edge of the River Dour in River near the historic Crabble Corn Mill, this charming family home is a sheer delight. Stepping across the threshold into the impressive full-height entrance hall you immediately feel the light and airy atmosphere created by the unusual design, the tall cathedral-style windows and the open-plan galleried landing. All the rooms flow from the hall, giving a wonderful feeling of spaciousness. Nothing has been left to chance in the stunning kitchen and dining room areas. Installed about two years ago the new kitchen has everything you need for modern-day living from the lovely range cooker and eye-level oven to the central island with its breakfast bar and selection of appliances. It is open-plan to the dining area where your friends and family will enjoy sitting down to a meal, looking out over the attractive garden and terrace with views to the river and an array of majestic and historic trees. There is also a large utility room virtually fitted out as a second kitchen.
You will be able to spend many happy hours in the vaulted ceiling sitting room or relax in the elegant lounge with its wood-burning fire and bi-folding doors to the conservatory and access to the garden.
With five bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor there is plenty of flexible accommodation. One of the bedrooms has a Juliette balcony overlooking the garden, the guest room has an en suite shower room, while the stunning master includes a large bathroom, a dressing room and a balcony where you can sit over your breakfast on a sunny morning. There is also a double garage and a driveway for off-road parking.
What the Owner says:
We were looking for a village community not too far from the Channel Tunnel and Dover docks but with access to a range of amenities and we found everything we wanted in River. Although it is quite close to Dover it has retained its village atmosphere and has an individual character and identity originally created by the historic mills originally built in 1812 to produce flour to feed the troops defending the coast against Napoleon.
We can watch the trout in the river and feed the ducks that even come up to the house demanding food! We can use a private bridge across the river to Lower Road that follows the river to the village and enjoy marvellous walks with the dog in the park along Minnis Lane or slightly further afield at Kearnsey Abbey. It is also very quiet and peaceful as we live in a cul-de-sac, so it is very safe for children.
River is a very friendly place and includes a convenience store, post office, pharmacy, two churches, and three pubs as well as an excellent primary school with an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted report. After-school activities for children include cubs, brownies and scouts, while adults can enjoy disco nights, football, rugby and bowls. We will be sad to leave but we feel it is time to downsize and we hope another family will be able to love this house as much as we have.
