Description
Corntown Farmhouse is a historic property in the centre of the village of Corntown next to Ewenny in the Vale of Glamorgan. It is a traditional Welsh longhouse and has its origins in the 14th century. It was the first building in the village with the rest of the village evolving around it. It is a Grade II Listed Building due to its 14th century origins and for its important frontage in Corntown village. The listing is attached.
The construction of the property is of stone and the buildings are generally in sound and good repair commensurate with their age and character. Behind the dining room wall there is an old bread oven which has not been exposed.
For several centuries it was a working farm with the milk stand still visible at the roadside. The house is set back from the road and has a large courtyard that can easily accommodate a dozen cars. It is surrounded by a stone wall with a range of farm buildings, including barns, stables, a pigsty and cartshed. Currently the outbuildings are used as a garage, a store area, a bike shed and wood shed for the 2 coal/wood open fires in the property. There is also a store for the ride-on mower and a further open barn which is used for log-cutting. There is potential to convert the outbuildings into a dwelling or work accommodation, subject to necessary consents.
A front garden is matched by a rear garden, an orchard and a 2 acre field and from the top there are wonderful views of several Welsh valleys. There are many mature trees surrounding the property, with 4 apple trees and 2 pear trees whilst hedgerows have the usual abundance of wild country flowers and blackberries. The rear garden, orchard and field allow a peacefulness to enjoy all 4 seasons in different ways at Corntown Farmhouse.
