Property description

The village of Brook lies nestled at the foot of the Downs to the east of Ashford. Although a small village it’s incredibly popular with its own pub and school. The neighbouring village of Wye is a few miles away and has its own station as well as a large array of shops and other facilities.

Oast Houses encapsulate the essence of Kentish life but these days most of them have either been demolished or, like this stunning example, converted into homes.

The current owners moved in 30 years ago and have transformed the property into a family home where they brought up their children.

The extension has primarily increased the ground floor and as a result 4 of the 5 bedrooms are on this level, whilst the master bedroom occupies the top of the Oast and has a circular, vaulted ceiling as well as a large dressing area and en-suite.

The base of this property is used as the main dining area and it’s easy to picture the whole family or a group of friends gathered round enjoying each other's company and the lovely character that’s contained within the building. On long winter evenings you can spend your time in front of the log burner warming your toes, whilst in the summer you’ll probably want to be out in the garden relaxing in the sun and enjoying the views over the neighbouring farmland to the Downs beyond.

What the Owner says:

It was my job that brought me here 30 years ago and having previously lived in Wales we really wanted to be ‘out of town’. Unlike other areas, Ashford and its surrounding villages offered good value for money.
This property was a bit of a mess and looked nothing like it does now, but as soon as we walked into the lounge and saw the wooden beams we knew we could do something with it. Most of the property has been modernised and we’ve increased the floor space by extending the existing property.
The village of Brook is beautiful. We’ve been involved with the community here and as a family its been wonderful. We will miss the pub with its superb food and also miss the sunsets seen from our garden.
