And for Derek and Pam Lee, their new life on the Costa Blanca has meant saying a sad goodbye to their home of 13 years. 

“We’d looked at several other bungalows before we found this one, but they were all so cramped and boxy,” explains Pam. 

“Brock’s Retreat was different,” she continued. “It had more space and was surrounded by beautiful countryside.” 

“We’ve been really lucky in that we’re pretty central to towns such as Market Harborough, Oakham, Uppingham and Leicester, but without the urban feel,” says Derek. 

“In spite of the rural location, we still get excellent broadband coverage,” adds Derek, who works from home in the converted double garage. 

Tilton is a perfect spot for anyone looking for their own personal share of the Leicestershire countryside; fields with sheep and donkeys, pheasants paying the occasional visit to the garden, roaming badgers, and walks across the fields. 

Conveniently, the Rose & Crown pub not only welcomes ramblers and dog-walkers, but those arriving on horseback too. 

The village itself, say Derek and Pam, is close-knit, with enough clubs and events to appeal to even the most diverse interests. And for the competitively green-fingered, there is an annual produce show. 

“We’ll really miss the village,” continued Pam. “It’s not one of those places where you have to live for 30 years before anyone will speak to you. 

“There’s a play school, a luncheon club, plus walking, historical and film clubs. They have exercise classes in the village hall as well – they’ve even started doing Zumba in the village hall recently.” 

Derek and Pam have enjoyed a particularly good rapport with the neighbours who share their quiet cul-de-sac. 

“They’re a good crowd,” says Derek. “We often stand out front and have a chat.\" 

The garden is perhaps what Derek and Pam will miss the most, with two water features and most plants grown from seed in their greenhouse. 

Their other pride and joy is without doubt the conservatory, added since the couple moved in. 

“We’ve spent most of our time in there,” explains Derek. “It’s all wired up for satellite TV and the sun is on it for most of the day.
