Property description
A charming and deceptively spacious 3 or 4 bedroomed cottage with plenty of character, enclosed rear garden, garage and parking, centrally located in this ever popular Mid-Devon village.
Thurlby Cottage forms part of the longest continuous run of thatched buildings in Devon. It is a mid-terraced Grade II listed cottage, full of character and charm throughout. There is flexibility with the dining room being able to be used as a ground floor bedroom if required which can utilise the ground floor shower room across the rear hall. The current owners have further improved the property with the addition of central heating (from the wood burner in the living room) throughout plus the addition of a shower to the former utility to provide ground floor amenities. Exposed floorboards and tiled floors can be found on both the ground and first floors which further enhances the charm. The kitchen is large enough to house a breakfast table and chairs plus the electric Aga which provides hot water.
Outside is a pretty lawned garden to the front with a central path and to the rear is a fully enclosed garden, designed at present with ease of maintenance in mind being paved and decked. There is an ornamental raised fishpond and a water well (covered). At the end of the garden is a garage with plenty of storage space and double doors to access the lane at the rear (there is vehicular rights to access the garage) and an off-road parking space.
The entire property was re-thatched and slated in 2014, new central heating in 2015 and the agents are informed that the wiring is certified and up to date.
MORCHARD BISHOP is one of the larger parishes in the county lying east of the A377 Exeter / Barnstaple road and north west of Crediton, and having a population of just under 1,000. It nestles comfortably in the very heartland of Devon, midway between the north and south coast and sitting between the two great Moors, Dartmoor and Exmoor. The village is surrounded by hilly, unspoilt countryside, yet is within easy travelling distance of Crediton (approximately 7 miles), the City of Exeter (approximately 14 miles) and Tiverton (approximately 15 miles). The village is well served by local regular buses to Crediton and Exeter and is 3 miles from Morchard Road station on the Barnstaple to Exeter Tarka line. It has an attractive mixture of old thatched cottages and modern houses with amenities such as the parish church, primary school, Doctors Surgery, shop/post office, garage and London Inn. There is also a sports club, tennis court, village hall and a bowling green.
