Property description

Set among the rolling Kent countryside in the charming village of Boughton under Blean, this delightful 200-year-old Oast house in 0.48 acres makes a wonderful family home. With uninterrupted views over farmland yet only a few moments from the A2/M2 for London, Faversham and Canterbury, it offers the best of both worlds – the peace and tranquillity of rural life but with easy access to excellent transport links. The property was completely refurbished in 2000 and further improvements since then mean it is now very much a home for modern-day living.

You cannot fail to be impressed when you first see the property and once inside you will not be disappointed. There is a spacious round lounge where you can curl up with a good book in front of the log burner in the winter or wander out through the French doors in the summer. The very modern fitted kitchen with its range cooker, integrated fridge/freezer, dishwasher and breakfast bar will keep the family happy and you can enjoy chatting to guests in the large open plan dining room while you are prepare a meal. Whilst the current owner likes this layout, the space is big enough to convert back into three separate rooms.

With a modern family bathroom and four double bedrooms, including the unique master in the roundel with its en suite bathroom and curved built-in wardrobes, there is plenty of room for everyone.

Outside, the attractive garden is full of mature plantings, flower borders and a pond and the large lawns provide lots of space for kids to run around while the patios offer a variety of patio areas. It is particularly attractive in the summer months and has even been used for a wedding reception in the past. For car enthusiasts there is a double garage and driveways providing off-street parking for up to four cars and the loft and loading bay offer scope for expansion and improvement.

What the Owner says:

We bought Westlea Oast in 2000 when we moved to the charming village of Boughton-under-Blean. We wanted to live in a village where there was easy access to a church, shop and pub – but not necessarily in that order! We definitely found the right place as our home is within easy walking distance of the village shop, two churches and three pubs – each with their own individual attraction. There are plenty of clubs and activities in the village and, for golf enthusiasts, the Boughton golf club is virtually on the doorstep.
We also loved the views across the valley to Nash Court – the impressive Georgian mansion that dates from 1715. Enjoying the views encouraged us to buy the adjacent land enabling us to create several viewing areas where we could catch the sun and watch amazing sunsets. The house is perfect for entertaining both indoors, where we have held dinner parties for 20 plus and outside, using tables throughout the garden. The position makes it easy for guests to not only find us but also to park. We have even overflowed into the nearby village hall car park on occasions! There are plenty of walks both in the surrounding countryside passing through Blean Woods, hop gardens and round Whitstable with cycle paths on old railway cuttings to the coast and Canterbury. There is also a variety of excellent schools within easy reach.
