Property description
It is impossible to believe the space available in this charming mid- 19th century cottage when you first see it. However, as you go down the large drive providing plenty of off-road parking and see the beautiful garden and paddock, you realise there is a lower floor not visible from the road. This floor incorporates a delightful modern Schmidt kitchen overlooking the garden and flows round the corner to the open-plan dining room. It creates an ideal family area, particularly as the kitchen includes a central island made of solid walnut where everyone can congregate, a range of integrated Neff appliances to suit even the most discerning of cooks and direct access to the garden.
Wonderful period features greet you on the ground floor with its front door to the road, a welcoming beamed hall and a delightful snug or fourth bedroom complete with a brick fireplace, beamed ceiling and book shelves. Here you can spend many happy hours quietly reading or wander past the family bathroom up to the elegant sitting room with lovely views across the garden and unique double oak doors with stained glass insets, believed to date from the 1800s. Being on a half-landing the good-sized master bedroom provides welcome privacy while the top floor, with its two small double bedrooms, second bathroom and cloakroom, offers ideal accommodation for children or guests.
A delightful surprise in the secluded garden, bordered by woodland and a charming stream, is a magnificent double-glazed log cabin with a south-facing decked patio. This has to be the ultimate spot if you want to work from home undisturbed. Alternatively, it would make an excellent studio for budding artists or could become a games room for all the family to enjoy.
What the Owner says:
It is a lovely home and it will be difficult to find something similar. The large garden is ideal for family life and is where our young children can run around and let off steam, while the large chalet makes an excellent office. Our kids have enjoyed birthday parties outside with their friends as the garden is large enough for bouncy castles and there are always a number of local children joining our youngsters on the trampoline.
Blean is a delightful village with the famous and historic Blean Woods providing some wonderful nature trails and bridlepaths, while the Crab and Winkle route offers enjoyable cycling. The village is half way between Whitstable and Canterbury so you can be in the city or the coast in a matter of minutes. Indeed, we are only five minutes’ drive from Canterbury West station, which is very useful as we often go to London on business. There is an excellent primary school and a bus service as well as two good pubs, while the village hall provides plenty of activities from coffee mornings, table tennis and line dancing to art, yoga and preschool facilities. You will also find a post office and the Londis convenience store – famous for its excellent customer service, winning ‘My Shop is Your Shop’ award for community retailing and the prestigious ‘Londis Store of the Year.
