Property description

An idyllic village setting with birdsong and Sunday church bells surrounds this stunning listed cottage which we believe dates back to 1465. It has seen an enormous amount of change over its years and feels like a warm and inviting home that has housed a rich variety of occupants through this time. Bursting with original features and centuries of changing fashion it now combines modern living and historical interest in equal measure. Two delightful reception rooms centre themselves around inglenook fireplaces one with an open fire the other with a wood burner and both provide a cosy space to entertain in or snuggle up with your favourite book or T.V show. Extended to the rear many years ago a traditional kitchen with bread oven and bathroom overlook the pretty cottage garden with lawn area, patio and charming views over the lovely village roofline to the church spire. The two first floor bedrooms have uneven floors and exposed timbers and share a newly installed shower room and a tight staircase give access to the two loft rooms which are used as a bedroom and study. If you can tear yourself away the charming interior and rustic beams then the area will not disappoint either. Westbourne is a traditional West Sussex village with everything you need right on your doorstep and yet is centrally placed between the renowned Chichester yacht basin and the Southdown’s National park so is ideal for sailors walkers and cyclists in equal measure. Emsworth has a superb rail link and the area is also blessed with excellent schooling.

What the Owner says:

We brought this cottage not knowing what to expect as it needed so much work but we have loved it now for 30 years and have spent a lot of time bringing it back to its former self yet also making it a comfortable/ practical home to live in. We discovered the inglenook fireplaces and original wall paintings and it's been a labour of love to do it with as much respect for its history as possible. It's a stunning home to live in, and from, as the area is as charming with wonderful walks from the village and it is convenient to get to Chichester and Portsmouth by car or train and yet it is so quiet. We love the character of the cottage; everywhere you look there is a piece of history looking back at you and it feels like a loved and happy home. We will miss it when we do go.
