West Lydford is a pretty Somerset village in beautiful countryside between the towns of Somerton and Castle Cary. The major towns of the area, being Bristol, Bath Taunton and Yeovil, are all within commuting distance, Castle Cary station (5 miles) has a mainline station to London and the A303 is within a five minute drive. There are good state schools close by including Keinton Mandeville C of E primary, and Ansford Academy, which has the benefit of a school bus from the village, also many private schools including Millfield, Sherborne, Wells Cathedral, the Bruton schools, Downside and Hazelgrove.

This charming village is centred on the old Church, village hall, and ancient bridge over the River Brue and has many period houses and cottages with more recent additions. Lydford is a friendly and very active community, with a good number of societies and organisation. The village also enjoys excellent footpaths and bridleways in and around the village. Within a few minutes' walk is a local Budgens supermarket, also a well-regarded general store & post office which also provides banking facilities, newspapers and much more. Directions
Travelling North on the A37 towards Shepton Mallet from the traffic lights at Lydford On Fosse - turn left just past the motorhome dealership into the village of West Lydford. Continue into the village passing the sports club and cricket pitch on your left, after several hundred yards Shilling House will be found on the right hand side opposite Brue Cottage.
