The southern part of West Hoathly was designated as a conservation area in December 1972 and has many listed buildings dating back from the 14th to 16th centuries. Although retaining its village character, Sharpthorne is by no means remote and there are good road links to other nearby major towns such as East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Crawley and easy access to Gatwick and the motorway network.
