Property description

The view across the magnificent West Bay from the breakfast room of this beautifully positioned marine property is probably one of the most superb sea views in Thanet. Here you can watch the continuous

movement of the tides and experience amazing Turner skies. It is literally across the road from the vast sandy beach where children can build sandcastles and learn to swim in the summer and in the winter it is a wonderful spot for bracing walks with the dog. For golfing enthusiasts, the Westgate and Birchington golf course is just around the corner.

Whether you are looking for a full-time home or a delightful seaside weekend retreat, this spacious late Victorian property provides plenty of options. From the moment you enter the large front door into the

impressive hall with its original Pugin-designed tiles on the floor and the elegant staircase, you can feel the warmth and character of the place. The large lounge/dining room, with its wall of windows and

French door leading to the wraparound conservatory, provides an excellent space for entertaining. At the same time you can sit andrelax around the wood burner in the attractive lounge area fireplace. The large kitchen/breakfast room offers everything needed to delight any cook. With its large hob, built-in oven, central island and amazing views it is inevitably where the family will gravitate, while the adjacent

garden room is a useful utility area and perfect link between house and garden during summer barbeques. There are extra storage areas in the loft which has a window and down below in the cellars.

There is a modern bathroom and three very large double-bedrooms including one en suite – each with equally stunning views as they all face the sea. You will also find easily-maintained and sheltered garden

areas where you can soak up the sun in the summer months.

What the Owner says:

“We think this to be one of the first homes built in Westgate, in about 1884 – reputedly for a London solicitor as a summer residence at the time
the railways were first built – so it has plenty of history. We fell in love with the house the moment we saw it and have thoroughly enjoyed living here.
While we have been here we have renovated the conservatory, where new double-glazing keeps it warm and cosy in the winter, and exposed the beautiful original flooring in the lounge and dining area. We have also created a new, easy-to-look-after garden outside the garden room. Our family love to visit and the children enjoy spending days on the beach.
In many ways, while the donkey rides may no longer exist, it has hardly changed in more than 50 years and the lovely beach is still a magnet for families and is an ideal spot if you want a bit of exercise as you can cycle
along the 35-mile stretch of coastal promenade. We have found Westgate to be a friendly place with a delightful parade of individual shops, where
you can buy a variety of interesting and unusual items and a local cinema that shows all the latest films, as well as a main line station and easy access
to the Thanet Way.”
