Location
Dingwall, reputed to be the birthplace of Macbeth in 1010, traces its origins as a settlement to the early ninth Century. Thanks to its sheltered location on the Cromarty Firth on Scotland's north-east coast it became an important strategic trading and administrative centre for Norse invaders. It was made a Royal Burgh in 1226 and later continued as the county town of Ross-shire.
