Property description

Three bedroom detached cottage located in Charlcombe, a semi-rural position in Bath. Comprises kitchen, sitting room, dining room, garage, cellar, parking and gardens. A beautiful home that is situated in a location that offers peace, tranquillity and great beauty, combined with easy access to shops, amenities and excellent transport links is something many people search for but seldom find. Ravenswell Cottage is one such property, as it is a charming family home that occupies an enviable position on the rural fringes of The World Heritage City of Bath. The house began life as a stable block, which belonged to neighbouring Ravenswell House, and it is believed to have been converted into a dwelling at some point in the 1930s. The current owners purchased the property in 1971, and it has been a much-loved family home ever since.“The house was in a terrible state when we first came across it,” says Sylvia, “but the minute I set eyes on it I fell in love with it. We had to renovate the entire property,” continues Sylvia, “and although we didn’t have to extend the house we did slightly alter the layout to suit us as a family. It’s now a very comfortable home with a spacious kitchen, a very nice dining room that is ideal for entertaining and a large, but cosy living room. The forty-four years we have spent here is testament to the fact that it has been a wonderful home.”“Our garden is actually within the Bath City boundary, but we’re in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and whichever window you look out of there are green fields for as far as the eye can see.” “The garden is most definitely my favourite part of the property,” says Sylvia. “Over the years it has been a cricket pitch, a rugby pitch and a football pitch, but these days it a beautiful space that I love to just sit in and enjoy; it’s also an absolute haven for wildlife. The garden is a beautiful place for parties,” says Sylvia, “and over the years we have had quite a few. We love to get together as a family, and a couple of years ago I held a large charity event, which was a great success and thoroughly enjoyable.”“I love the fact that it is so silent here,” says Sylvia, “and yet within ten minutes I can be right in the centre of Bath, which is a stunning city to have practically on the doorstep. I have spent a large proportion of my life in this house and there is so much about it that I will miss,” concludes Sylvia. “I feel the time is now right to downsize, but I will take with me some wonderful memories.”“I will also miss my neighbours. There are only six houses that share this postcode. By no means do we live in each other’s pockets but we are always there for each other in times of need.”
