Property description

From the moment you walk through the beautiful front door of this lovely early 1950s home into the beamed dining hall you will be mesmerised by the view. Whether you rush straight outside through the French doors onto the patio to get a better look or wander through to the light and elegant sitting room with virtually two walls of windows and patio doors, it is still the view across the countryside to the sea and as far as the French coast that takes your breath away. Even washing up in the attractive kitchen is painless as you watch the cruise ships and ferries crossing the Channel or see the twinkling lights of Calais in the distance. At night, in the winter, the clear skies make it an excellent spot for anyone interested in astronomy.

You could even spend all day just sitting in the large and airy conservatory or relax on the patio with a glass of wine looking over the garden and beyond while your friends play a game of croquet on the lawn. The garden is surrounded by delightful shrubs, trees and climbers including palms and clematis and flowers virtually all year round, while the double-garage and driveway provide plenty of space for a number of vehicles.

Robin’s Hatch has been in the owner’s family since it was built so has never previously been on the market. With its three double-bedrooms, plenty of storage and a very modern bathroom upstairs and spacious accommodation on the ground floor, this property creates an ideal family home. At the same time it would make and excellent weekend retreat and holiday home – and is virtually guaranteed to unwind you from the rigours of the working week.

What the Owner says:

“I have been visiting my late wife’s family at Robin’s Hatch since 1974 and came to live here permanently in 1986. Even after all these years I still find the panoramic vista a true delight. I also love the peace and tranquillity that surrounds us here and will miss it very much but feel it is time to move into something smaller and hope someone else will have the vision to turn this place into their dream home. We have delightful neighbours and they prune their vegetation so they have a good view, which benefits us all. St. Margaret’s at Cliffe is a very community-spirited village and has been home to a number of well-known stars. Peter Ustinov bought a small military building on the clifftop while Ian Fleming owned White Cliffs Cottage where Noel Coward was a regular visitor. In fact, the ‘007’ for James Bond was apparently based on the number 007 National Express bus to Canterbury. There are a number of restaurants, a hotel and four pubs as well as a post office, village shop and a regular bus service to Dover, Deal and Canterbury and a wide range of societies and clubs. You will find plenty of wonderful walks along footpaths and trails to Kingsdown, the Dover Patrol Memorial and the South Foreland Lighthouse – the first in the world with electric light.
