SITUATION The cottage is located inside the conservation area and the village lies within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. West Oxford District Council based in Witney are responsible for many of the local services while the local Parish Council plays an active role in maintaining the village and providing additional local facilities, the playground which was completely rebuilt in 2011 being a recent example.
Local amenities include the Wychwood Church of England Primary School, St Michael's Stores and Post Office and the Wychwood Surgery, all within the village. There are frequent bus connections to Witney, and Chipping Norton and the Shipton railway station is on the Cotswold Line running from Paddington to Hereford.
The village is on the Oxfordshire Way footpath, which can be used to walk north-westwards up the Evenlode Valley to Bruern Abbey and Bledington, or eastwards down the valley to Charlbury.
Attractions such as Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, the Cotswold Wild Life Park near Burford and Bourton-on-the-Water in Gloucestershire are all within easy reach by car.
DIRECTIONS From Burford proceed down the High Street over the bridge to a mini roundabout. Fork right towards Chipping Norton (A361) and continue to Shipton-under-Wychwood. Turn right in Shipton-under-Wychwood following the signposts to Ascott-under-Wychwood. On entering the village on High Street turn right into Church Street, it is best to park next to the green and then walk down Gas Lane where the property can be found of the left. Postcode OX7 6BT.
