Property description

This property is a stunning four-storey Grade II listed Victorian town house in the centre of Deal’s picturesque conservation area. This impressive corner property will immediately grab your attention from the moment you see the name over the arched entrance and walk up the steps to the front door with its dramatic stained glass fanlight. Inside, you are greeted by a warm and welcoming reception hall with its original marble fireplace and sash windows. It is currently being used as an elegant dining room that, in turn, leads into a charming sitting room which also has a lovely fireplace and arched shelving on either side.

From the dining hall you can take the ornate wrought iron spiral staircase to the lower floor where you will find a surprisingly large modern open-plan living room that includes very good-sized sitting and dining areas as well as a 21st-century kitchen incorporating a variety of built-in appliances, a beautiful ceramic tiled floor and an arched brick fireplace with a wood-burning stove. There are glass doors to the boot room – ideal for drying muddy dogs and storing bicycles – which leads directly to the back door and also to the walled courtyard garden. This is a charmingly secluded space for relaxing on those sunny summer days and it also contains an interesting outbuilding with a toilet, decorative arched windows and wooden door.

It could be converted to an unusual playroom or office for anyone who wants to work from home but needs a little privacy away from the main house.

On the first floor there is a light and airy landing leading to two double bedrooms including the master with its en suite shower room and on the second floor there is another double bedroom and a vast modern bathroom with a slipper bath and a separate shower. Throughout the property there is a variety of period features adding character to the house such as fireplaces, sash windows and picture rails. This lovely home is less than a minute’s walk from the seafront and the high street with its individual shops and a selection of pubs and restaurants.

What the Owner says:

For more than 40 years I have owned a second home in Deal as I love this charming town with its historical links to the sea as well as its friendly atmosphere, long seafront, quaint shops and variety of eateries.
There is also a range of high-street stores and supermarkets for day-to-day requirements. The house is not far from the street market that occurs every second Saturday which I used to browse around whenever I was in Deal and there is also a weekly farmer’s market in the town hall. I bought this house about 7 years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed living here and doing up the house, particularly the lower ground floor and the bathrooms. Unfortunately, my health is such that I now need to move to a property that is all on one floor so, sadly, I shall have to leave my lovely home.
I have always found that the house offers very flexible accommodation as the number of reception rooms on different floors means family members can have their own space. It is also a great place for entertaining. Over the years my friends have always enjoyed visiting as they can have their own private bedroom and bathroom on a separate floor and also be on the beach within a minute – so they always feel they are on holiday. It is also an ideal centre for days out, whether you want to pop across to the Continent from Dover, visit castles such as nearby Walmer and Dover or spend the day in Canterbury with its cathedral and wide range of high-street stores.
