Property description

An opportunity has arisen to purchase an original Petersfield terraced cottage in the heart of Petersfield dating back to the 17 century containing original beams, stone floors and fireplaces. The front door opens into the main sitting room and has a feature wood burning stove and wooden beams. The latch and panel wood door leads to the kitchen with a vaulted exposed brick fireplace housing the original bread oven. There are wood beams on the ceiling and walls and stable door to a private paved garden. The brick built outbuilding is at present the utility room with storage space. A staircase leads to the basement room with stone arches and has a small amount of natural light from the street. From the kitchen another staircase leads to the first floor where you will find a single and double bedroom and family bathroom. The main bedroom has beamed and stone walls and ceiling and a fireplace. The bathroom has a roll top bath and shower attachment, and washbasin. A further staircase leads to a loft room currently used as a sitting room with original beams and stone walls.

Sheep Street is one of the oldest and most picturesque streets in Petersfield, houses here date from the 16th century onwards. The early prosperity of Petersfield was based on wool, which probably explains the name. Sheep Street can be entered directly from the market square and links up with The Spain, which is where the wealthy Spanish wool merchants lived. Petersfield itself is a market town and civil parish in the east Hampshire district of Hampshire. It is 17 miles north of Portsmouth on the A3 road. The town has its own railway station on the Portsmouth direct line, the mainline rail link to connecting Portsmouth and London. The town is situated on the northern slopes of the South Downs. Petersfield lies wholly within an area of outstanding national Beauty and within the boundry of the newly created South Downs National Park.
