Property description

This charming Grade II listed cottage, thought to date from 1690 is full of character and bursting with original period features. A real ‘one off’ this is a truly unique property which is bound to catch your interest. Stepping into the surprisingly spacious living room begins a journey around a home that is somewhat of a ‘Tardis’. You will appreciate the large sash windows, which fill the room with light. Of an evening the space is brought back to life with the roaring fire from the wood burner, perfect to cuddle up on the sofa with a good book. The dining room has plenty of space for a large dining table to gather with friends and the exposed brick of the fireplace here is a real focal point. The Shaker style kitchen is the perfect spot to celebrate your culinary skills. This kitchen is larger than you might expect, it spills into the space formerly occupied by the house’s bathroom.

The bathroom is now upstairs, and what a bathroom! A large tub for those relaxing evenings in which to take some time to yourself with some bubbles, is matched by an impressive shower for when time is of the essence. The main bedroom is a gorgeous space with wooden beams on the walls and ceilings, including what is believed to be part of a ship’s keel. The second bedroom up on the second floor gives guests some added privacy, with their own slice of your historical haven. Outside, the cottage style garden is perfect for family parties and also the ‘green fingered’ out there.

What the Owner says:

I moved into this property in 1990, following a 6 month restoration project, supported by a Heritage Grant from the local authority. The work managed to uncover some surprise pieces along the way – like the wealth of beams, including what appears to be a former ship’s keel in the bedroom wall. Practically, the roof was retiled and all the timbers in the house were treated. The cottage was also rewired. Later, in 2009 the chimney was relined and the wood burner in the living room was installed. Outside, a practical note the outbuildings have also been restored and now offer a modern plumbed outside toilet (very handy at a BBQ) and a utility space to allow the kitchen to remain all about the food.
