Property description

This beautiful cottage is full of character and if you appreciate log burners, inglenook fireplaces and exposed beams then this is a ‘must’! Formerly, as the name suggests, the cottage used to be a toll house and the original part of the building dates back to the mid 1800’s.

The house has been extended over the years most recently by the current owners and as a result there is plenty of space and the rooms are fairly versatile, what was a bedroom is now the dining room with a beautiful, inglenook fireplace which houses a log burner. Family dinners and celebratory meals are spent gathered round the table and only retreating to the lounge when you’ve eaten and drunk your fill.

The lounge also has a log burner set back in a brick fireplace and is not only a lovely focal point but also provides the central heating for the cottage. The main bedroom has been added on recently by the current owners. A vaulted ceiling above the bed creates a feeling of space and two velux windows mean you can gaze up at the stars as you fall asleep and what better way to wake up then with a view of the wonderful garden out the back.

Wild birds are frequent visitors and you can only see one neighbour in the distance over! A variety of fruit trees including plum, cherry and apple provide some good cooking ingredients and there’s always a possibility to have your own vegetable plot as well, which is helped by the fact that there’s a greenhouse.

What the Owner says:

When we moved nearly ten years ago we knew that we wanted to be in a village and we’d already missed out on a few when we stumbled on this one. It had been empty for a while and looked nothing like it does now but we saw the potential straightaway.

The garden was a big attraction and over the years we’ve really worked hard on it. We also added the main bedroom which we absolutely love and on the practical side of things, we installed central heating and double glazing.
