Penzance, with a population of around 21,000, is the biggest town in the old Penwith area and marks the end of the main rail line in west Cornwall. The town, which celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2014, sits in the picturesque Mountâs Bay, overlooking St Michaelâs Mount, and boasts Cornwallâs only promenade and the UKâs largest seawater lido in Jubilee Pool. Penzanceâs main shopping street is Market Jew Street, with Causewayhead and Chapel Street also popular and filled with smaller independent shops. The townâs biggest festival is the annual Golowan Festival, which was revived just over 20 years ago, culminating in a colourful parade through the town on Mazey Day at the end of June each year.
