Canna (Scottish Gaelic: Canaigh; Eilean Chanaigh) is the westernmost of the Small Isles archipelago, in the Scottish Inner Hebrides. It is connected to the neighboring island of Sanday by a street and sandbanks at low tide. The island is 7 kilometers (4.3 mi) long and 1.5 kilometers (0.9 mi) wide. The disengaged skerries of Hyskeir and Humla lie 10 kilometers (6.2 mi) south west of the island. The islands were left to the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) by their past holder, the Gaelic folklorist and researcher John Lorne Campbell in 1981, and are run as a homestead and protection zone. Canna House, one of two major houses on the island (the other being Tighard), contains John Campbell's critical documents of Gaelic materials that were given with the islands to the nation. Since then the NTS has occupied with new activities to pull in new inhabitants and guests to the island.
