Hawick is a town in the Scottish Borders committee region and memorable province of Roxburghshire in the east Southern Uplands of Scotland. It is 10.0 miles (16.1 km) south-west of Jedburgh and 8.9 miles south-southeast of Selkirk. It is one of the most distant towns from the ocean in Scotland, in the heart of Teviotdale, and the greatest town in the previous region of Roxburghshire. Hawick's structural planning is unique in that it has numerous sandstone structures with slate tops. The town is at the intersection of the Slitrig Water with the River Teviot. Hawick is known for its yearly Common Riding, for its rugby group Hawick Rugby Football Club and for its knitwear industry.

At the 2001 statistics Hawick had an inhabitant populace of 14,801. By 2011, this had diminished to 14,294.
