Banchory (Scottish Gaelic: Beannchar, 'favored spot') is a burgh or town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, lying more or less 18 miles west of Aberdeen, close where the Feugh Stream meets the Waterway Dee. The name is thought to be gotten from an early Christian settlement established by St Ternan. It is guaranteed that Ternan was a devotee of St Ninian.
