Area Guide For Burnham-on-Sea

Burnham-on-Sea is a town in Somerset, England, at the mouth of the River Parrett and Bridgwater Bay. Burnham was a little town until the late eighteenth century, when it started to develop in light of its prevalence as an ocean side resort. It structures some piece of the ward of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge and shares a town committee with its neighboring business town of Highbridge. As indicated by the 2011 enumeration the number of inhabitants in the area was 19,576. The position of the town on the edge of the Somerset Levels, where they meet the Bristol Channel, has brought about a history ruled via land recovery and ocean barriers since Roman times. Burnham was truly influenced by the Bristol Channel surges of 1607, with the present bended solid divider being finished in 1988. There have been numerous wrecks on the Gore Sands, which lie simply seaward and can be uncovered at low tides. Beacons are thus unmistakable points of interest in the town, with the first beacon known as the Round Tower assembled to supplant the light on the highest point of the fourteenth century tower of St Andrews Church. The 110 feet (34 m) column or High Lighthouse and the low wooden heap beacon or Lighthouse on legs on the shoreline were manufactured to supplant it. The town's first raft was given in 1836 by the Corporation of Bridgwater.
