Re: Japanese Knotweed on Allotment Site at the Rear of 24 Lambton St

Thank you for contacting us regarding the above property. We were made aware of the issue by the current owner in May 2015. Neighbourhood Services policy is to treat Japanese knotweed where it occurs on land for which we are responsible in verges, Council owned cultivated areas and where it encroaches to within 5 meters of private property.

We treat with glyphosate based weed killers either as a spray or stem injection depending on the conditions and size of the infestation. Treatment normally consists of 3 visits during the growing season (May-October) and can take up to three years to be fully effective. However, we would expect to see significant results and a halt to spread after one season.

The area at the rear of 24 Lambton has had one treatment this year and will be visited again in July and October of 2015 before treatment starts again in May 2016. In this instance with a relatively small infestation we would expect treatment to be successful quite quickly and do not currently foresee any on-going issues. I trust this clarifies the mailer but if you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
